Apple Unveils the New MacBook Pro: OLED Display and the First-Ever Touchscreen Support
Major Changes in the Mac World: Apple's Bold New Move
For years, the tech world has anticipated the day Apple would bring a touchscreen to the Mac. Ever since Steve Jobs' era, the company insisted that touchscreens on laptops were ergonomically impractical. Times change, however—Apple has officially unveiled the all-new MacBook Pro models, featuring touch controls and an ultra-modern OLED display.
PROLED XDR: The Incredible Quality of Tandem OLED
The centerpiece of the new MacBook Pro is its display, dubbed PROLED XDR. It utilizes Tandem OLED technology—stacking two OLED panels to push peak brightness up to 2000 nits and sustained brightness up to 1000 nits.
What advantages does this bring to users?
- True Blacks and Infinite Contrast: A dream come true for photo and video editing.
- Adaptive 120Hz ProMotion: The refresh rate scales dynamically from 10Hz to 120Hz, ensuring smooth visuals and energy efficiency.
- Professional Color Accuracy: Full support for P3 and Adobe RGB color gamuts.
The First-Ever Touchscreen Mac and Dynamic Island
With a simple touch on the laptop display, you can move windows, zoom in on photos, or interact directly with creative workflows. Apple emphasizes that touch input is designed to complement your productivity rather than replace the trackpad or mouse entirely. Note that Apple Pencil support has not been introduced yet.
Another striking change is the removal of the familiar notch. In its place at the top of the display is the Dynamic Island, brought over from the iPhone. For authentication, users will continue to rely on Touch ID.
Design, Nostalgia, and Upgraded Acoustics
The new models are not only more capable, but noticeably lighter and sleeker:
- Chassis weight has been reduced by approximately 200–300 grams, significantly boosting portability;
- The Glowing Logo Is Back: Fans of classic Macs are in for a treat—the Apple logo on the lid lights up once again;
- An overhauled thermal architecture directs exhaust air away from the display;
- The six-speaker sound system gains 50% deeper bass and upgraded tweeters, delivering rich audio even with the lid closed.
The laptops are powered by the cutting-edge M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, delivering extreme performance for demanding workloads.
Technology never stops evolving, but getting a top-tier laptop doesn't have to mean spending thousands of dollars upfront.
